Teen Therapy in Orange County
I help overwhelmed teens, learn how to identify, and skillfully managing their emotions.
Chances are, you might be concerned about your teens mood and behavior. No matter what you try to present them with, they seem indifferent. You are willing to do anything to see them happy. You know this time in their life can be hard, and you understand their confusion. Their frustration, and your frustration makes sense.
I am here to help. Over the past 15 years, I’ve found ways to connect with teens; the ones that have tried everything to feel better, and despite their best efforts, have run out of options. Together, with a strong dose of humor and realness, we can understand and make sense of their behavior.
If you are at a loss with your teenager, you’ve come to the right place. Adolescence isn’t something to survive. I truly believe there are opportunities to thrive.
Bonus! Get additional support from Gus, my teen therapy dog. Having Gus in your session is entirely up to you!
Numerous studies show that interacting with animals helps lower blood pressure, increases engagement in life, and reduces anxiety and depression. Gus is very sweet and gentle.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have the best start to life. It’s been such a joy to give him a second chance at life. Gus usually prefers to be in the corner during sessions. We all have so much to learn from Gus. He helps us realize its ok to take baby steps in life, and warm up to new situations in our own time frame.
Gus gets excited for his day, and is always “ready to work”. He loves greeting new clients. If you’d like Gus in your session, you will fill out my animal assisted therapy consent and liability form. He looks forward to supporting you however he can, and is ready to be a catalyst towards your healing!
How Teen Group Therapy in Orange County Can Help
These past few years have shown us all, the importance of community and connection. Teens are continuing to report how lonely and disconnected they feel. More than ever, they are wanting to feel alive and inspired. The novelty of endless TikTok videos has worn off for them. Teens are experiencing high degrees of social anxiety and dissatisfaction in connecting with others.
Teens are reporting that real life interactions lack substance, and they wish their friends could show up for them in a different way. This confusion leaves them retreating back to their phones, unclear of what they are really searching for.
Your teen craves a space where they can feel safe, seen, known and valued.
All of your teens’ life is spent in some form of group or another. From sports, to family, to the classroom; navigating relationships is vital to your teens mental health. In fact, it might be the single most important factor towards optimal mental health. Sadly, more and more teens are reporting feeling disconnected from themselves, which in turn, impacts their ability to connect with others. The root of mental health challenges for teens is a bit more complex than you might think.
Teens come to me with questions like:
Why do I feel so hopeless, why do I keep changing who I am around different people, what’s life like after high school, how do I get my needs met, will I ever be in love, what do I stand for, and do I even matter?
Group therapy is an excellent place for your teen to discover more meaningful ways to relate with others and approach this time in their lives. Group therapy is the answer for teens struggling with social anxiety. It is the place for them to have a corrective experience.
Teens need guidance in learning how to think about their emotions, and the emotions of others, in a flexible, critical, and objective way. Beyond academics, teens need to be be learning how to develop strong interpersonal skills.
My approach to therapy is attachment and relationally based. Teens find that I ask the right questions that get them thinking about who they are, and why they do, what they do. The connection I create with your teen, will assist them in being able to open up.
And the good news is, teens report being excited to attend group. Teens say that it feels much more natural to talk about their lives when in a group.
It’s an honor to create this space for them.
FOR TEENS: Maybe you’re having trouble with one of your close friends. Or maybe you want some support in a world where expectations can feel like too much. Choose your own path: one on one, group, or family therapy. Get connected, and learn skills to improve your quality of life, right where you are.
FOR PARENTS & FAMILIES: You want what’s best for your teen, and you try so hard to connect, but somehow, you still don’t feel like you’re getting through. You need someone in your corner, supporting you in figuring out how to approach this new phase of development. I can help you look beyond behaviors, in order to create lasting change.
